Hello,
I’m planning to build a swimming pool at my home in Dubai and wanted to know whether I need approval or a permit from the Dubai government before starting construction.
If approvals are required:
* Which authority issues the permit?
* What is the application process?
* Are there any structural, safety, or design requirements I should be aware of?
* Approximately how long does the approval process take?

Yeah, you’ll generally need approval before building a permanent pool in Dubai. I looked into it a while back, and it’s not something you can just start constructing.
Usually, you’ll need a licensed contractor/consultant to prepare the drawings and submit them for approval. If you’re in a gated community, you’ll likely need an NOC from the developer (like Emaar, Nakheel, etc.) as well. Once the approvals are in place, you can start construction.
If you’re talking about a rooftop pool, it’s a bit more involved because a structural engineer has to confirm that the building can safely handle the extra load. I’d definitely get a contractor who’s done rooftop pools before, they’ll usually guide you through the entire approval process.
